What to avoid when you have acne

Avoid irritation

In general, it makes sense to clean the skin areas affected by acne once a day with pH-neutral, fragrance-free soaps or lotions – possibly special acne lotions from the drugstore. Washing too often destroys the skin’s natural protective environment and can worsen acne. Once a week, a chamomile steam bath gently cleanses the pores, soothes the skin and also has an antiinflammatory effect.

Avoid external factors that can promote constipation of the sebum ducts: mechanical stimuli, for example, from tight clothing, straps (helmets, bags, backpacks) or oily cosmetics. Water-based moisturizers are more suitable. Make-up and sunscreen should therefore also be fat-free. UV radiation cures acne is a mistake. Acne is only slightly less noticeable on tanned skin. UVA radiation (solarium) in particular can even promote acne.

Mistakes to avoid

Mistake number 1: Do not clean textiles

Everything that comes into contact with the face should always be fresh. This also includes pillows and towels on which flakes of skin and hair are deposited, which can clog the pores and promote bacteria that lead to pimples.

The solution:  wash or change your pillowcase at least once a week. You should change towels at least every third day. Even better: Use a fresh facial tissue instead of a towel and only dab the face gently.

Mistake number 2: touch your face

How often do we face each other every day? The best thing to do is count! The fatal thing: every time new bacteria come from the hands to the skin, which can quickly lead to further inflammation. But even worse is deliberately squeezing or pushing around on the pimple – because this causes bacteria and micro-injuries to be inflicted on the skin.

The solution:  exhort yourself! For example, write a post-it with the inscription “Finger weg!” and place it on your PC. And try to catch yourself in the face as often as you can while on the go. Plus: Only professionals should press pimples, they know how to do it hygienically without pimples and the following acne scars.

Mistake number 3: incorrect care

Those who are prone to acne often try to get rid of them with all possible means. The most important rule, however, is: less is more! Because too many steps in the care routine irritate the skin excessively, dry it out and thus stimulate sebum production.

The solution:  Clean your cell phone and glasses every night with disinfectant wipes or hygiene spray – they eliminate almost all germs. Another solution for the smartphone would be not to hold it too close to the skin when talking on the phone – after all, we always have the smallest pimples under the ear.

Mistake number 4: improper hygiene

Smartphones and sunglasses are practical. But have you ever thought of using both of them almost every day without ever cleaning them? Countless bacteria collect on both the cell phone and the glasses – which can quickly lead to new pustules.

The solution: Clean your cell phone and glasses every night with disinfectant wipes or hygiene spray – they eliminate almost all germs. Another solution for the smartphone would be not to hold it too close to the skin when talking on the phone – after all, we always have the smallest pimples under the ear.

Mistake number 5: poor nutrition

There are many studies that try to relate pimples to diet. The only evidence so far: Insulin levels that are too high lead to impurities. Sugar, alcohol and products with white flour in particular cause blood sugar to rise sharply, which can lead to pimples.

The solution:  As hard as it sounds: please simply cut out the food or at least look at the food combination in which the sugar values do not increase so much. For example, the insulin level can be kept in check by combining the “bad food” with protein. So, for example, eat a few nuts before every meal, it’s a little better.

Mistake number 6: smoking and stress

A quick smoke to get down? An absolute no-go – at least from a skintechnical point of view. Stress promotes sebum production, as does the carbon monoxide contained in cigarettes. The skin is poorly supplied with blood and bacteria accumulate.

The solution:  When smoking, the easiest option is to drastically reduce or better stop, after all, it not only promotes pimples but also wrinkles. The same applies to stress. Meditation (linking) or yoga can help. You will see, the less you stress about the few pimples, the sooner they will disappear.
